U.S. AREA ANNUAL CLUB SERVICE AWARDS

PURPOSE OF AWARDS

1. To recognize clubs for their achievements

2. To stimulate clubs to improve their effectiveness in service to the YMCA and community.

3. To provide a sense of wholesome competition.

4. To assure sharing of results of projects so that other clubs will benefit from such sharing.

SCOPE OF AWARDS TO CLUBS

There will be a choice of a banner patch or certificate awards to each club which meets the criteria in six service area: Youth Service, YMCA Membership Service, Community Service, YMCA World Service, Y Staff Training and Camp Service. There will also be an outstanding Club Award presented to those clubs which meet an overall set of criteria embracing service area and other concerns - U.S. Area President citation - AWARD OF EXCELLENCE.

REPORTING OF SERVICES

A form will be provided by the U.S. Area on which a club records its services performed. Supplemental information can also be included, expanding on the report. It should be mailed to the U.S. Area Awards Service Director, who compares it to the established criteria and recommends to the U.S. Area President that an award be given.

CONSIDERATION FOR ALL SERVICE AREAS

1. Number of people served by project.

2. Volunteer hours involved in actual service work, including money raising activities.

3. Money expended on the project.

4. Uniqueness of the program.

5. Publicity and public relations value of program for YMCA and Y's Men's Club.

CRITERIA FOR AWARDS

YOUTH SERVICE

- There is evidence of:

---Definite contribution - Time and Involvement.

---Emphasizing Christian character building - including sponsorship of financing and personal involvement.

---'Club' commitment to the program.

---Adaptability to other communities/Y's Men's Club.

---Program fitting into YMCA objectives.

YMCA MEMBERSHIP SERVICE

 

- There is evidence of:

---Interpretation Y goals to YMCA/Y’s Men members.

---Recruiting and training volunteer leaders.

---Involvement of Y's Men on Y Boards and committees and in supervisory or support roles.

---Involvement or Y's Men in campaigns/membership - finance capital funds, etc.

 

COMMUNITY SERVICE

- There is evidence of:

---Fulfilling a need which was not adequately filled.

---Collaboration with other organization/govt./etc.

---A project which emphasizes Christian aspects (e.g. Lenten luncheons/Good Friday breakfasts).

---Reacting to acts-of-God crisis.

---Filling emergency needs in community.

YMCA WORLD SERVICE;

- There is evidence of:

---Sponsoring event(s) which interprets and raises funds for YMCA World Service.

---Publicity for YMCA World Service to the YMCA constituency.

---Spearheading World Service - Education/Fund raising in/for their YMCA.

Y STAFF TRAINING

- There is evidence of:

---A contribution to Alexander Scholarship Loan Fund.

---A potential YMCA career-bound student recruited.

---Financing training experience needed by YMCA staff person.

---A special project carried out to raise funds for Y staff training.

CAMP SERVICE

- There is evidence of:

---Financial support to a YMCA camp.

---Y's Men leadership for camp.

---Involvement in work parties.

AREA PRESIDENT CITATION - AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

1. Service award earned in at least five out of six areas.

2. Participation in Regional and International Conventions.

3. Evidence of leadership development for Y's Men and the YMCA.

4. Up-to-date completely with Reports and Dues to U.S. Area and International;

5. Viable, enthusiastic club life, including meeting and other events which are attractive to members and guests.

6. Net gain in membership over previous report.

7. Sponsoring a new Club during the year.
