THE ENDOWMENT FUND

This fund was created about twenty-five years ago.  Our purpose is to help provide financial aid and stability to Y’sdom present and future.  To aid in Y’s Men purpose, objectives programs and expansion.  In other words we want to develop and improve Y’SDOM. The fund has goals of (1) provide emergency funds if a tragedy should strike one of our Areas or Regions; (2) to provide funds to solve special problems or carry on special projects; (3) to provide special training or resource to strengthen, extend and develop Y’s Men’s in their Areas or Regions. At the time the fund was created we had a goal of one million dollars.  The fund had reached that goal and we are looking to double it now.

Anyone and everyone can contribute to the fund; individuals, clubs, districts, regional or area boards, and convention.  Here is how you can contribute to the fund.  Make gifts in MEMORY of deceased Y’s men, YMCA executives, Y’s Menettes, relatives or friends of Y’sdom, with a written memorial inscribed in the “Golden Book”.   You can make a gift in TRIBUTE Y’s men, YMCA executives, Y’s Menettes, relatives or friends of Y’sdom, with a written memorial inscribed in the “Golden Book”.  You can give stocks and bonds. You can name the Endowment Fund in a will, trust or annuity.  You can also purchase or transfer life insurance policy to the fund.

Donations of any amount can be given to the Endowment Fund.  With a donation of one hundred dollars you can have a memorial or tribute added to the “Golden Book”.  With a donation of one thousand dollars you will have a tribute added to the “Golden Book”, an iceberg crystal, which you can display at home, or the office. This iceberg states that you are a “Y’s men International Endowment Fund Honor Roll member. It will have your name or you and your spouse’s name etched on it. You will also receive two Endowment Fund Honor Roll lapel pins, one for you and the other for your spouse.  This donation can be cash, stocks or bonds worth at least one thousand dollars market value at the time of transfer.

The funds limitations; only income from the fund will be used to support Y’sdom.  The principal of the fund is to remain untouched in order to provide stability to the fund.  The Endowment funds cannot be spent without action by the international Council and the Endowment Fund Trustees Board.  The Trustees will tell how much of the fund can be spent.  The International Council will tell how and where it is to be spent as long as it meets the above stated purposes.

The structure of the Endowment Fund board is five members.  Each member will serve a term of five years rotating term.  One member will be replaced or reappointed each year by the international president. At any given time you must have a representative from three Areas of Y’s Men international on the board of trustees.

When your club makes up its budget be sure to include the Endowment Fund as one of the projects that you will support.  (In the USA all donations are tax deducible if you make your check to Y’s International U S Area Endowment Fund.  All donations will go to the CFO).  But you should make copy of your check and let your club know that you made the donation.  The club in turn will notify the RSD for Endowment.  The RSD will pass it to the ASD.  The reason for the chain of command is that at each level there are goals set.  When we let each level know they can update accomplishments to goals.

Our fund did take a big hit on 911.  I think we are getting part of our losses back.  It never comes back as fast as it goes out.  The process for handling donations to the fund was set up by the international council.  All cash donations are put in the bank until the end of the year.  All expenses are taken out of the bank fund during the year.  The amount left will then be transferred to the stock account at the end of the fiscal year.
