Y's Men Prayer Corner

Life is a mixture of sunshine and rain, Laughter and teardrops, pleasure and pain– Low tides and high tides,

mountains and plains, Triumphs, defeats, and losses and gains.

But there never was a cloud that the SUN didn’t SHINE THROUGH

And there’s nothing that’s IMPOSSIBLE

For JESUS CHRIST to do!

DICK WERTS

A past RD of Pacific Southwest Region, and very active in the Gardena Y's Men's Club. Dick had a good sized heart attack on Saturday, April 12, and is in the ICCU at Torrance Memorial Medical Center.   There has been damage to his heart, lungs and kidneys..  He has had stints placed in 2
of his heart arteries and will have a go back and have the 3 one done in 3 or 4 weeks.   Was in lots of pain and does have to stop smoking.  Don't know how long he will be in the hospital.    He is doing OK, but will have to have Cardiac Rehab.  He is not stable at this time, and can't go home till he is. Please pray for his recover and convalescence. Cards welcome.

CLARA GRUNDMAN

Wanted to give you the a update on Clara.  We had gone to Tulsa to the doctors to get ready for treatment. Mark came out and went up with us to the doctors. He found out that O U Medical center does trials with new medicines. He called a women at the center and told her about Clara.  She asked for the cat scan to be sent up to her. she thought that Clara was a  prospect to participate.  She and the Chemo doctor looked over her report and decided that they would like to have her come up to talk to the Doctor. We had been set to start treatment in Tulsa on the 8.  We went up on Tuesday and talked to the Chemo Doctor and the Radiation Doctor.  They sat down and explained what they thought they should do and that they felt that they could take care of the cancer. We decided that we really liked the doctors in OK City better than the Tulsa doctors even though it was further away.. We went back on Wed and had another cat scan and then they scanned her at the radiation lab to mark her where to treat her. They made a body cast that she will lay on so that they will get the same every time. They also have a big machine that can pinpoint the radiation right to the cancer. I think Tulsa had a cone on the machine that touched a larger area.
We had contacted the American cancer Society to get help with a place to stay. They said it would take two weeks for them  to find something. We go to OK City tomorrow to start with Radiation and Kemo Tue. We did find a camp ground about 4 miles from the hospital. It $350 a month which We thought was very reasonable. So we will be .living in our fifth wheel for the next 7 weeks. We will be coming home on the weekends.  Clara will have radiation 5 days a week and chemo 1 day a week.  We feel confident that the doctors know what to do. They treat each patient with what they need not just what every one else needs. So we will be sort out internet for a while. I will check up on it on the weekend.  We want too thank all of you for your cards and emails.  They sure do help.  Will keep you informed how things are going.

Please keep Ron in your prayers. He was bit above his ankle by a spider which caused the area to swell to the size of a golf ball. He is on antibiotics and has to use crutches for the time being and it's pretty painful.  Please pray for full and complete healing for Ron. (9/14/05)

ALAN CURL

Alan of the Kankakee Y's Men club and treasurer for many years is requesting the prayer from all that are willing to pray for him .  He has been in and out of the hospital for the past couple months and now home recuperating and needs the prays of the Y's Men prayer chain.  Alan has attended International and Area Conventions and always the Regional Convention in the Mid America Region, so possibly many have crossed paths with him. 5/21/07

Chuck & Audrey Bueche

3/13/08  Just received note from Audrey Bueche, seems they both have set backs and her sister just passed away, so they need of prayer from all of us.  Kay Lindner.

5/20/07 Please say a special pray for Chuck's recovery. Sorry to let you know that I had to get the para-medics Wed. 4:15 a.m. to take Chuck to the hospital.  Had symptoms of heart attack but we knew his bowels movements were very black so felt it could be bleeding trouble again.  That was the problem; hemo blood count of 6.1 so he has received six units of blood.  He got out of ICU this morning to room in heart hospital.  His count dropped from yesterday so will not release him yet.  No reason again of the cause!

(3/20/07) Just a quick note to let you know that I am scheduled to go into the hospital at noon tomorrow (tues.Mar.20th.) to have the angioplasty done about 1:30 pm.  As before, I will be staying over night. I am relieved that I stayed well over this weekend so it was
not necessary to cancel again. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!  Audrey and Chuck

(3/2/07)
Kay L. j
ust received a message from Audrey Bueche that she too is having some medical problems.  She has heart complications and has already one stent put in arteries,s and is to have another one soon.  She has been such a care given to Chuck who is still on the "watch" critical list too.  She is needed so much by the Naperville Club.

(10/26/06)
Chuck went back into the hospital late Sunday afternoon being severely anemic again.  He was given three units of blood by early last evening and we had thought he could get out today (Tues) but this am blood test showed he was only up to 9.3 from Sun.'s 7.2.  Drs. ordered 2 more units and said he probably will be in until Wed.  He's not pleased-but he is so much better than when I took him in. G.I. Doctors feel there is a new test putting Dye through blood vessels that they could try but dye would finish "killing" off kidneys so don't want to do it until he is on dialysis-probably in Nov.  If they find problem area they would probably go in Laparoscopic and cut section out.

Mon.(10/17/05)
Just to let you know that I had to take Chuck to hospital.  All symptoms from severe blood loss again; hemoglobin was 5.5 so was given four units of blood so up to 9.4 when discharged Tues. aft..
Our G.I. dr. is going to call back the U/Chi. Hospital G.I. doctor. to see about doing the Double balloon Endoscoptic procedure going in from top mouth).  They certainly had no luck with the Dbl. Bal. End. going in from the bottom!
We had been so sure the bleeding source had corrected itself since had not needed blood since July 20th. Such goes it in the Golden Years! Audrey

Just received word that Chuck is out of hospital, but not well by any means.  He has his blood count up, but still hemorrhaging from somewhere.  They will do the "pill-camera" procedure sometime this week.  Hopefully that will enable them to help determine what is wrong.  I will keep you notified, but that doesn't mean he is out of the woods.  We need to keep praying for his health, and Audrey his caregiver as well.  Keeping the care givers in our prayers is almost as important as the health of the one afflicted.  I also keep all of the Y's Men in my prayers.  We need these people and helping as much as we can through our power of prayer.  I certainly know from experience that God gives us all tests, and then we are praying for our tests to prove once again worthy of His graces.  Love to correspond with you Nancy, but it is always on a very sad note.  Keep well yourself, I'm working way too hard, but I do intend to try to keep above it all.  Keeping two jobs at my age is very taxing.  But the Good Lord gave me this role and I'm doing my very best to keep up.  Love to all in your Region and around the world.  Love & Y'sly, KAY LINDNER   Update  Chuck attended the U.S. /Canada convention and looked good. 8/22/05

Edgar Engert

Ten days ago Edgar experienced two significant episodes that required hospitalization and an angiogram showed that he needed angioplasties on 3 vessels.  He had this done along with placement of stents.  He has been home several days now and is slowly returning to his healthy state, but also following the Drs. orders... like a "good boy"  Keep him in your prayers.

Al Jacque

Al Jacques, of the Downey Y's Service Club, is in the hospital with what is considered a very serious condition.  They have found cancer in his esophagus and liver.  My husband, Bill, and myself were at the hospital today (8-25-06) around noon, and found him to be in good spirits although yellow in color.  His wife, Letha, and son, Jon, were with him.  The medical profession is still in the process of giving him tests in order to decide what to do next.  It seems that some sort of surgery is planned.  Al has asked that no calls be made to his room.  The family will communicate with me as they have new information, and I will pass all information on to you.  Please inform our region, and interested persons of Al, Letha and his families needs for prayer, and in making wise choices.  Cards and notes can be mailed to Al Jacques room 2282 c/o Presbyterian Inter Community Hospital - 12401 Washington Blvd - Whittier CA 90602.  All may call me at anytime for updates.

As we all know, Al has lived much of his life centered around his great love for the Y's Men's.  It is good to know that his love for the Lord is also real.  Although we all pray for a meaningful recovery, we can be blessed by Al's readiness to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  As we talked with him today he let us know that he understood the seriousness of his condition, and that he has no fear of death.

Pat Vallefuoco, President
Downey Y's Service Club 8/27/06

It came as a big shock to me.  I have met Al when we were both APEs during the MYM in Geneva in January 2000 and at that time  has just successfully  taken operation from prostate cancer ; I was very much inspired by his jolly mood and very energetic ways.

My family and I hope and pray that God touch him and give him the strength and faith to successfully pass another challenge in his life.  We pray for his early recovery.  With our prayers.

 Sincerely,
IP CHOI HAN-KI 8/28/06

Dear friends in the Y's movement,

It sadden me very much to hear that PAP Al Jacques is in serious illness, I myself just underwent a successful removal of my gallbladder last week, which was infected.

I am a contemporary of Al at the International Council, and I found him to be very dedicated, upright and fair. We work together very well on all issues affecting our Y's movement.

I would therefore suggest that we form a prayer brigade and storm the gate of heaven with prayers and beseech that our Almighty God will be merciful and touch our friend Al, so that he would be completely healed from his present serious illness.

Please convey to my good friend Al, my utmost, sincere and earnest prayer for his quick recovery.

With my warm regards and best wishes.

Y'sly and cordially,

JOHN L. CHOA, PIP 8/29/06

Dear Y's Men,

Our prayers and thoughts are with Al Jacques. His work for Y'sdom is a shining example of what committed service should be.

Mary and I fondly remember Al's eloquent introduction of us during the International President's dinner at Seal Beach, California, on 29th December 2005.

God governs everything. Our duty is to pray and leave Al Jacque's life to God.

Y'sly and sincerely,
IPIP Benson Wabule

Wes Walker

8/21/06 I am requesting prayer for Wes Walker who has several tears in the retina of his left eye and is being treated now to prevent any more tears of a detachment of the retina. This is his only good eye as a similar situation occurred several years ago that left him blind in the right eye. Please pray for healing in the eye and strength for this time of testing.

11/2/05 Wes is holding his own, but his right shoulder is bothering him since he is dependent on a walker and crutches.  Not sure of the outcome of that set back.  More on his condition again.  Thanks for the prayers and concerns.

Talked to Wes the other day.  He is feeling much better.  However, he is not to put any weight on his foot at all.  He is home, recuperating with the best of nurses, his wife Connie.  Seems the care giver needs prayers too.  Wes will try to attend in a wheel chair the Regional Convention in Kankakee on the 17th of September.  Let us continue our prayers for his complete recovery. 9/6/05

Joel Friedl

of the Naperville Club was rushed to the hospital a couple days ago with a heart attack.  He was to have angioplasty, but he developed an infection and they sent him home after a few days.  I believe that he is still to have it, but waiting a while.  Understand that he is doing quite well in spite of all that has happened.  You might give Ariani a call for the details, but I think it should be put on the sick and ailing for PRAYERS.  Also, she is asking we pray that he give up smoking for good.  He did for a while, but is back at it until now.  However, he did state to her that he is giving them up for good this time. 2/13/2006

Millie Huffaker

3 Jun 2005
I would like to ask you to pray for Millie Huffaker, wife of Ray Huffaker from the Seal Beach Leisure World Club.

Several weeks ago Millie underwent surgery to eliminate an aneurism in her brain.  The operation was successful but a couple hours later, she suffered a stroke which has effected the left side movement of leg and arm.  She is now in Los Alamitos-West therapy unit and shows improvement each day as far as eating is concerned.  Her speech was not effected.

It appears that gaining limb motion will be a long process.

Please pray for Ray and Millie.
Y'sly,
Nancy Wood

Bill Ward

10/13/04 Dear Family and Friends,

Bill had his heart surgery yesterday afternoon.  Luckily, it was valve repair, not replacement.  The doctor repaired four chordate (sp?), thin cords that keep the valve shut when it should be shut - - not letting blood regurgitate back into the lungs.

They don't think any special stress caused these to fail.  The cords may have been deteriorating over time and just gave out last week.

When I left the hospital late last night, he was still in Cardiac Intensive Care.  He was awake (barely) and knew when we talked to him.  He whispered a "good night" as I left.  The nurses and respiratory people said he was doing very well.  He may be in a regular hospital room this evening.  We hope so, since Opal (our 4 year-old granddaughter) would like to see him.  The night before
his surgery she was allowed to hop up on his bed and try all the up and down
buttons - - giving her and Bill a ride.

If you wish to send an e-mail message to him, go to torrancememorial.org click on "Patient Email" and enter "William Ward" when it asks for the patient's
name.

Thanks for your prayers, good wishes and love.

Love,
Donna

They are back in town and Bill is seeing his cardiologist today. A surgery time and date has not been determined yet. The good news is that they were able to get back home and go to their own doctors. Bill is very weak from the medication he has been on since his diagnosis. Please continue to pray for a complete recovery and keep good thoughts and I will update you as I can.

Y'sly,
Nancy Wood

10/8/2004  Dear Family and Friends,

Bill is resting now and Dr. Joslin said he should be ready to travel home by Sunday morning.  I'm sure all the prayers helped.

Thanks again.

Love,

Leo Clark

February 18, 2004
Leo Clark of the Palomar Club had a heart attack on Monday, February 16, 2004. He is in the hospital in Escondido and they are running tests to determine the damage and the course of treatment. As you are aware, he is already trying to recover from some other recent health problems, so this news is compounded by that. Please keep Leo and June in your prayers and ask God for mercy. We need all the prayer warriors we can get! As soon as I hear any news and updates, I will be sure to let you all know. For those of you that have club members that do not have email, please be sure to pass the word on to them as well via your telephone tree.

January 31, 2004
Good evening to everyone, I am sending this to you as Nancy Wood is out of town this weekend. We had a  call from Clara Grundman a few minutes ago, she said that Leo Clark had a non-paralyzing stroke this past weekend, due to blood leaking from his brain. He had been in the hospital for a few days and now he is home and their daughter, a nurse is home with them; apparently as a result of this, there is a blood clot and he is taking medication for this, as well as for head aches.

Please keep them in your prayers, I would suggest that there would not be any calls for a while, but, I am sure that cards would be welcome. For those of you that do not have his address, it is :

 1716 Via Alegre
 Escondido, Calif.,  92027--4617

 Prayerfully and Y' sly,
